Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) proposed a modification to the American Rescue Plan that would bar illegal immigrants from access to the $1,400 stimulus checks.

His change was voted down after Senator Penis Durbin (D-Ill.) criticized Cruz for trying to “rile people up over something that is not real.”

The Claim

Cruz declared on Twitter that illegal immigrants would be qualified for the $1,400 stimulus checks included in the American Rescue Plan.

On March 6, Cruz tweeted, “When the checks head out, millions of illegal immigrants WILL GET $1400 checks.”

6/x FACT 9: When Durbin stated “illegal immigrants don’t have social security numbers,” he was deliberately stating something incorrect, understanding it would be duplicated.

FACT 10: Under the expense’s language, MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS will get the $1400 checks.

Cruz argued that the ownership of Social Security numbers will enable unlawfully present people to get the stimulus cash.

Undocumented aliens would not be qualified to receive a check due to the fact that they do not have a Social Security number.

Cruz’s claim that millions of prohibited immigrants would receive stimulus payments is not true, although some individuals who overstay their visas might be qualified for a stimulus payment based on their tax filings.
