On Feb. 2, John Legend shared the heartbreaking news that his granny Marjorie died Tuesday early morning at 91 years of ages. “My gorgeous grandmother, Marjorie Maxine Stephens, left this world early today, just a couple of days after her 91 st birthday,” John captioned an Instagram post, that included a carousel of a few of their images together for many years. “We are so grateful for the life she lived, for the love she shared with her many children, grandchildren, excellent grandchildren, and beyond. She was the most caring and conscientious granny you could envision.”

To honor her memory, John took a minute to review the “full, blessed life she lived” and share a few of the methods which Marjorie brought joy and joy to the Stephens household. “She still sent us all birthday cards with cash until her final days,” he stated. “She hosted our annual Christmas events until we actually couldn’t suit her little pink house on Heard Opportunity in Springfield, Ohio. She was active and full of curiosity and energy till her last days. She constantly had a story to tell and words of support and love. She supported us and rooted for us unconditionally. I’m so grateful she got to see the fruits of all she gave us. She got to travel the world with us, went to my very first Grammys. She got to experience the successes of all her offspring.”

John’s post likewise consisted of a picture of his grandmother holding baby Luna– who understood Marjorie as “Granny”– simply one month after she was born. “We are the household we are, the individuals we are since of the love she poured into us,” John stated, taking pride in having had such a terrific grandma in his life. “We are sad to lose her but most of all so appreciative of the full, blessed life she lived. May she Rest In Peace after running an excellent race.”
