Steve Schmidt, a co-founder of the Lincoln Job, announced on Saturday that the political action committee will take legal action versus Rudy Giuliani, former President Donald Trump and Steve Bannon over defamatory remarks about the Capitol riot.
Throughout a Friday interview on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, Giuliani alleged that the insurrection from pro-Trump advocates was arranged by an individual with ties to the Lincoln Task.
” I do not understand if I can reveal his name,” Giuliani stated. “Because we have that from confidential sources. He worked in the past for [Utah Senator Mitt] Romney.”
MSNBC host Ali Velshi played a sector from Giuliani’s appearance on Bannon’s podcast on Saturday early morning.
Schmidt stated that he was “delighted” that Giuliani made the remarks and revealed his objective to sue the legal representative, his customer and Bannon for libel.
Lincoln Project creator Steve Schmidt on Saturday said he means to take legal action against Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump over their Capitol riot claims.
” Well, what’s incredible about it, Ali,” Schmidt said in reference to the clip, “is that at the end of it when you cut it off when Bannon goes to, ‘you’re eliminating me, you’re killing me,’ since Steve Bannon knows he’s going to get sued by us also, and he is.”
” So will Donald Trump who is Rudy Giuliani’s client, and Rudy Giuliani is acting upon his request. Appearance, it is extremely challenging to take legal action against somebody for defamation or libel in the United States. Our attorneys are telling us that Rudy is well throughout the line, so we’re thrilled about this,” he described.
Quickly after Bannon’s podcast aired on Friday, Schmidt tweeted: “We are going to get to sue the s t out of Rudy Guiliani. I’m so pleased that I’m actually choked up.”
On Saturday afternoon, the Lincoln Task revealed a letter sent out to Giuliani by its legal group entitled, “Your False and Defamatory Statements About the Lincoln Task (with Accompanying Notice to Maintain All Relevant Documents).”
” You betrayed your country when you increased to speak on January 6, 2021 prior to a raucous crowd that your customer, ex-President Donald Trump, had actually invited to rather a brief distance from the U.S. Capitol. You promoted phony conspiracy theories. You said the presidency had been ‘stolen,'” the letter stated. “You declared without triggering or proof that my client, The Lincoln Task, ‘prepared’ the January 6th insurrection ‘in order to hurt’ Donald Trump.”
The Lincoln Task’s attorneys concluded that Giuliani had “dedicated a book act of defamation,” and gave the lawyer up until Wednesday February 3rd “to withdraw your declaration fully and to say sorry openly to the Lincoln Job.”
It’s currently uncertain when or how the Lincoln Task will take legal action against Bannon and Trump.
