Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final round of the 2021 Australian Open on Wednesday.
Following the loss, Williams and Osaka met at the net for a hug.
In her post-match press conference, Williams was asked whether we simply saw Williams complete for the last time.
When asked what her gesture to the crowd suggested, Williams stated, “I don’t understand, the Aussie crowd was so amazing, it was nice to see.”
Regarding her future and whether a goodbye is around the corner, she said, “I do not understand, if I ever state farewell I wouldn’t tell anyone so.”
As concerns continued to can be found in, Williams was appearing to get psychological and eventually stated she needed to be done fielding questions, discussing, “I do not know … I’m done,” as her voice started to shake more.
She was also asked what went incorrect with the loss and stated errors were the main factor for the loss to Osaka.
Williams said she wasn’t nervous, however just made easy mistakes that were very preventable.
